Final Fantasy VII (and a bunch of others) coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox One

A host of new and classic Final Fantasy games are coming to Switch next year, including Final Fantasy IX, X|X-2 HD, and XII: The Zodiac Age.

This week’s delayed Nintendo Direct has proven to be full of surprises, with a host of Final Fantasy games scheduled to arrive on the Switch this year and next.

The 35-minute presentation was bookended by two major new announcements for next year: Luigi’s Mansion 3 and a new Animal Crossing, and you can read about them and .

But one of the biggest surprises was the annoucement that Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD, and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age are coming to Switch sometime next year.

In fact, it’s the first time any numbered Final Fantasy has been on a Nintendo home console since Final Fantasy VI on the SNES in 1994. The same games are also coming to Xbox One, after also never being on a Microsoft console before.

That was far from the only Final Fantasy related annoucement though, even accepting that news of Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition HD had already .

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition had also already been announced, at a PlayStation event earlier in the week, but it will also be coming to Switch next year, complete with online multiplayer and new areas.

But revealed for the first time on the Direct was World Of Final Fantasy Maxima, a new version of the existing PlayStation and PC game for Switch that will be out on November 6.

On top of that is Chocobo’s Dungeon: Everybuddy!, a new entry in the Mystery Dungeon roguelike series that will be out this winter.

Square Enix are clearly keen to get as many Final Fantasy games as possible onto Switch, and that’s in addition to the recent Octopath Traveler and the upcoming remaster The World Ends With You -Final Remix-.
