Khalil to decide on Al Ain future soon

Dubai: UAE striker Ahmad Khalil has promised to finalise his contract immediately after Al Ain’s Round of 16 matches in the AFC Champions League later this month.

Khalil, who was offloaded mid-season after playing just two matches with last year’s champions Al Jazira — signed with Al Ain in January this year. Since then, coach Zoran Mamic has used Khalil’s services well while replacing either Swedish striker Marcus Berg or Egyptian winger Hussain Al Shahat.

Last week, Mamic insisted that he had asked the displaced UAE main striker to stay on at Al Ain for another season. “Of course, my priority is Al Ain,” Khalil said on Thursday.

“I would be lying if I say that I don’t have offers from other clubs. But being in Al Ain I have been finding my rhythm and there is a lot of understanding shown to me by everyone, including my fellow teammates and the management. I will decide what I want to do at the right time,” he added.

Probed further, Khalil said he will make his contract a priority immediately after Al Ain’s home and away matches against Qatar’s Al Duhail on May 8 and 15. “After these two games, I will sit with the management and the decision will be conveyed,” he said.
