We spoke to the genius Monsta X fan who puts Shownu into a bonkers Sims universe

Fans of K-Pop boy band Monsta X are probably already aware of Shownu The Sims,  dedicated to turning Shownu, the group’s leader, into a Sim, a character from the long-running life simulation game series.

The person behind the simple but brilliant idea, who is Korean and didn’t want to give her real name, admitted that she has had ‘several offensive messages’ sent to her on social media because of it, but insisted it won’t put her off doing what she and so many other fans enjoy.

‘I’ve always thought Shownu had a very unique look even before I became his fan’, she told Metro.

‘While I was making his Sims character, I had the chance to look at every part of his face very carefully every day, grew interest in him, and searched him on YouTube.

‘That’s how I became his fan, even became a Monbebe [the name for Monsta X’s fans].’

Updates are posted at random, putting Shownu into bizarre situations, like meeting Elsa from Frozen, or more normal ones like watching South Korea in the World Cup with the Monsta X members.

Set-ups are sometimes created off the back of real-life events, like Shownu’s recent (amazing) change of hair colour or him crying on stage during the group’s encore concert in Seoul last month.

The Twitter account has racked up over 40,000 followers so far who all look forward to an update from Sims Shownu, who also .

For those wondering, actual Shownu (his band mate Kihyun filled him in), and seemed to really like it.

Talking about how she created her Sims Shownu, she said: ‘I spent over six months adding details that only fans could find out about. I can promise that this was the Sims character that I’ve put the most effort in.’

The crazy storylines she creates are ‘spontaneous’, such as the long-running plot that saw Shownu become best mates with Thor.

‘I watched a Marvel movie and wanted to make a Sims Thor, so I did,’ she explained.

‘I used the weather in Korea at the time – it was very rainy with lightning and thunder – and since Thor is a symbol of thunder, I thought it would be funny to have him appear with Sims Shownu.

‘He kept appearing because I couldn’t find a way to send him back to his world. Though now he’s gone, I hope people would keep remembering him, and think that he’s always watching out for Sims Shownu!’

She added that she didn’t expect her Twitter account to get such a huge following – but there was some backlash.

‘I didn’t expect this account to become so big. Not all the reaction has been positive, and I’ve received several offensive messages,’ she said.

‘But I keep this account active because I know there are a bigger number of people that like what I do.’

It’s not just Shownu who gets the Sims treatment. She makes Sims versions of her friends who think it’s a ‘pretty normal thing’ for her to do.

So who is she going to Sim-ify next? She has .

She told us: ‘I think I have improved in making Sims characters but I am still not good enough to make whoever I want to.

‘I like a lot of people so I have many candidates for the next Sim. I hope I can give a little hint but it all depends on my hands so I can’t guarantee who will be next.

‘Whoever it will be, please look forward to it!’

Monsta X are currently on tour in Japan following the release of their Japanese single Livin’ it Up (which you should check out if you haven’t already – it’s lit).
