Arab nations meet over embassy fallout

The Arab League will hold a meeting of foreign ministers today at the request of Saudi Arabia to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian crisis after the United States relocated  its Israeli embassy to the disputed holy city of Jerusalem.

The meeting is expected to discuss ways to confront the US move after Israeli forces killed 60 Palestinians near the Gaza-Israel border during demonstrations against the opening of the embassy.

Asean Street Fair opens today

The Asean Street Fair will be officially opened today at Wisma Geylang Serai, a new Malay-Muslim social and cultural heritage hub. This takes place in conjunction with the launch of the Wisma Geylang Serai Hari Raya Bazaar 2018. Ambassadors and high commissioners of several Asean nations will be present to view the new facility as well as break fast together. There will also be cultural performances organised by several embassies.

April export data out today

Data on non-oil domestic exports for last month is expected to be released today, with analysts expecting a break from the past two consecutive months of decline. A low base in the same period last year, marginal depreciation of the Singapore dollar and possible output surprise from the biomedical cluster would make for a stronger reading in April, according to DBS Group Research. It expects a 7.1 per cent increase in export sales.
